28 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Edo as Police Intensify Crackdown

19 suspects to face prosecution after raids on criminal hideouts across the state.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 28 suspected cultists following targeted raids on criminal hideouts across the state, as part of ongoing efforts to curb cult-related violence.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, 19 of the suspects were found culpable after preliminary screening and will soon be charged in court.

“In continuation of its fight against cultism, the command has commenced house-to-house arrests of identified cult members to ensure cult activities are either eliminated or reduced to the barest minimum,” Yamu stated.

He disclosed that three of those arrested had already confessed to belonging to the Eiye and Aye confraternities and have been arraigned.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika assured residents that the command will maintain a sustained offensive against cultism through visibility policing, community engagement, and intelligence-driven operations.

He issued a stern warning to cult members to denounce cultism, relocate from the state, or face the full weight of the law as stipulated in the Edo State Secret Cult and Other Related Activities Prohibition Law.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to making Edo a safer place for all law-abiding citizens.
