2027: Kaduna opposition unites under ADC to dethrone APC

The Coalition of Political Opposition in Kaduna State, in collaboration with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced an ambitious plan to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the coalition comprising former members of the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party pledged to build a united political front focused on inclusive governance, grassroots mobilisation, and people-oriented development.

Malam Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), addressed the media on behalf of the coalition and ADC stakeholders. The initiative, he said, enjoys the full backing of prominent political figures including Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr. John Ayuba, Senator Musa Bello, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati all of whom signed a joint communiqué in support.

According to Lukman, Kaduna has endured poor leadership marked by divisive politics and worsening hardship. He accused past leaders of exploiting citizens’ frustrations to gain power, only to govern with impunity and self-interest.

He revealed that, following the ADC’s adoption as the coalition’s official platform for the 2027 elections, consultations and grassroots verification exercises have commenced across the state’s 23 local government areas and 255 wards. The goal, he said, is to establish a credible and inclusive political structure from the ground up.

Lukman emphasised that the coalition is determined to avoid repeating the failures of traditional politics. He warned against turning the ADC into another platform for political opportunists, stressing that personal ambitions especially governorship bids would be set aside until the party is solidly rooted.

He noted that the Kaduna initiative aligns with a broader national strategy that aims to rally all major opposition forces behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

The coalition urged opposition aspirants to embrace tolerance, dialogue, and unity, warning that internal discord breeds the very issues they seek to combat—rigging, discrimination, and abuse of power.

On concerns about the status of existing ADC executives in the state, Lukman clarified that the party’s Interim National Chairman, David Mark, has affirmed the continued recognition of all current state leaderships, pending further directives.

He also disclosed plans for a statewide mass membership registration drive, with ADC registration centres set to open in every local government, giving citizens eager for change the opportunity to formally join the party.

The coalition concluded by asserting that only a truly democratic party anchored in accountability and internal discipline can produce the calibre of leaders capable of rescuing Nigeria’s fragile democracy and delivering effective governance.
