OSGF Confirms Yomi Odunuga’s Appointment After Initial Denial

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has officially confirmed the appointment of veteran journalist Yomi Odunuga as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to SGF, George Akume, countering an earlier denial issued by the Directorate of Information.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the SGF, Terrence Kuanum,, clarified that Odunuga’s appointment was approved on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and that he has since assumed official duties.

According to the statement, the initial confusion stemmed from the fact that Odunuga is currently undergoing standard documentation processes in line with civil service procedures.

“Mr. Odunuga’s appointment received the approval of SGF Akume on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and he was immediately mandated to commence official duties,” the statement read. “On the same day, he issued a statement in his official capacity, debunking claims linking the SGF to the position of APC National Chairman.

“The SGF reiterates his confidence in the capacity of Mr Odunuga to bring his wealth of experience and proven track record as a journalist to bear on the overall image of the Office of the SGF”, Kuanum stated.

The clarification follows a contradictory statement issued on Friday, July 11, by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, which had denied that such an appointment had taken place.

Imohiosen had earlier stated that no official announcement regarding the appointment had been issued by the Directorate, describing circulating reports as misleading.

In contrast, Saturday’s statement from Kuanum affirmed that the appointment followed due process, noting that the ongoing documentation was part of standard civil service procedure.

He called on the public to disregard conflicting reports and confirmed that Odunuga has been duly authorized to represent the SGF in all media-related matters.
