Zlatan Ibile Urges Rising Artists to Budget for Therapy Alongside Music Promotion
The rapper stresses the emotional toll of fame, advising young talents to prepare for mental health challenges.
Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has advised aspiring musicians to take their mental health seriously as they chase stardom.
The Zanku hitmaker shared the advice on Thursday via his social media handle, warning that fame often comes with emotional strain.
He urged fast-rising artists, and those investing in their careers, to make provisions for professional therapy sessions in addition to marketing and promotion budgets.
In his words:
“If you get brother or sister wey be fast rising artist and you believe say he or she go blow, as una dey keep money for marketing and promo, make una dey keep therapist money for one side too cos lol!!!”
His post echoes long-standing concerns about the pressures within the Nigerian music industry, which many insiders have described as mentally draining.
Over the years, several artists have opened up about their struggles with depression and anxiety. In 2022, singer Omah Lay revealed that his battle with depression worsened following a personal issue involving his therapist.
Zlatan’s call adds to the growing awareness around mental health in Afrobeats, highlighting the need for young talents to prioritize emotional well-being alongside commercial success.
