Zamfara 2027: ADC Courts Governor Dauda Lawal as Wave of Defections Boosts Momentum

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is making bold moves to expand its political footprint extending an open invitation to Governor Dauda Lawal and other respected political figures to join its fold.

Speaking at a press conference in Gusau on Friday, ADC State Chairman Kabiru Garba revealed that more than 100 new members have defected to the party from various political platforms over the past ten days — a surge he described as a strong endorsement of the party’s credibility and growing relevance.

“In just ten days, over 100 people from different political backgrounds have joined the ADC in Zamfara. This shows rising confidence in our agenda and leadership,” Garba said.

He noted that the ADC is strategically positioning itself as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 polls, with a clear, development-oriented manifesto and a well-structured grassroots network capable of winning elections and governing effectively.

Garba was explicit in extending a public invitation to Governor Dauda Lawal, saying the ADC would welcome the state’s chief executive with open arms if he chose to align with their vision.

“The ADC would be honored to welcome His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal. Our doors are open to credible politicians — individuals with integrity, purpose, and a passion for good governance,” Garba stated.

While there has been no official comment from the governor or his aides, political observers see the move as part of the ADC’s broader strategy to capitalize on dissatisfaction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Garba expressed optimism that additional defections were on the horizon, as more politicians seek platforms that reflect their values and the aspirations of the people.

“We are appealing to principled leaders — no matter their current party affiliation — to consider the ADC. What matters most is a commitment to serve, not personal ambition,” he said.

With its recent wave of new members and a firm grassroots presence, the ADC says it is more prepared than ever to challenge the state’s traditional political heavyweights.

“We are ready to take this party to victory in 2027,” Garba asserted. “Our manifesto is people-driven, and our structures are firmly in place to bring real development to Zamfara and Nigeria at large.”

He described the ADC as an inclusive, forward-looking party built on transparency, competence, and citizen-centered leadership.

“Any leader who truly believes in positive change and sustainable development will find a home in the ADC,” he concluded.
