Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has denied any personal conflict with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, asserting that Fubara remains his “political son.”
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike clarified that his ongoing political struggle was not against Fubara but against individuals he believes have been manipulating the governor for their own gain.
“Fubara is my boy, my son; why would I fight with him?” Wike stated. “I’m only fighting against those who are trying to take what they didn’t work for. They must be defeated to the final stage.”
Wike’s remarks come amidst a protracted political clash with Fubara that has been escalating since 2023, contributing to a political crisis in Rivers State. The situation has worsened following Fubara’s suspension by President Bola Tinubu after the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Fubara, acknowledging the rift, had apologized to Wike, further fueling speculation about the nature of their relationship.
Wike emphasized that the political forces pushing Fubara against him were the real target of his struggle, adding that these individuals were now “ashamed” as they were being defeated. He underscored that the battle was not personal but rooted in political maneuvering.
The clash between Wike and Fubara has captured significant public attention, with many watching for further developments in the ongoing saga in Rivers State politics.
