Wike Approves Promotion of 49 FCTA Deputy Directors After First-Ever CBT Exam

The computer-based test introduced by the FCT Civil Service Commission cleared years of delayed promotions for top-level officers.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the elevation of 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across key departments of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The development follows the conclusion of the first-ever computer-based promotion examination organized by the FCT Civil Service Commission on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University Centre in Bwari Area Council.

According to a statement released by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, the exercise was designed to resolve outstanding promotion cases for officers on Grade Level 16 between 2023 and 2025.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, confirmed that the newly promoted Directors will fill 49 of the 63 vacancies across different cadres. He explained that the Education Officer cadre recorded the highest intake, with 20 officers promoted from a pool of 820 applicants. The Accountant cadre followed with nine slots, while others such as Civil Engineers, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers each had one vacancy filled.

For the Administrative cadre, 12 candidates competed for 10 openings. Eze noted that the competitive process underscored the importance of merit-based advancement.

The examination, conducted through the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model, had a pass mark set at 60 percent. The Minister had earlier directed the adoption of a technology-driven process to ensure transparency and efficiency in the promotion exercise.

The promotions are expected to strengthen the leadership structure of the FCTA, while ongoing vacancies will be filled in subsequent phases.
