The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has sharply criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent letter to the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as “useless.” The letter, which sought to arrange a meeting with the lawmakers to discuss the implementation of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s political matters, drew the ire of the former Rivers State governor.
Wike, who served as the governor of the oil-rich state before Fubara, addressed the situation on Wednesday during a conversation with journalists in Abuja.
He took issue with Fubara’s approach, emphasizing that Speaker Martins Amaewhule and the other members of the Assembly were not Fubara’s subordinates and deserved to be treated with respect.
The former governor further expressed that instead of sending a public letter to invite the Assembly members for a meeting, Fubara should have personally reached out to Speaker Amaewhule and the lawmakers by phone.
Wike suggested that a more direct and respectful approach would have been to arrange a mutually agreed-upon date and time for the discussion, rather than relying on formal correspondence that could be seen as dismissive.
