Victor Osimhen Gifts Remo Stars N10m as Tributes Pour In for Historic NPFL Title Win

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has led nationwide celebrations of Remo Stars’ historic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title triumph, gifting the newly crowned champions N10 million following their maiden league success.

Osimhen made a personal video call to the team and donated N5 million to the players and another N5 million to the technical crew in recognition of their remarkable achievement. Head coach Daniel Ogunmodede confirmed the gesture, which has added to the wave of tributes from across the country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hailed the victory as a testament to “hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit,” praising the players, coaching staff, and club management. “This historic victory, four years after promotion to the elite league, is a testament to perseverance,” the President said, while also commending club chairman Kunle Soname for his vision and commitment to grassroots football.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described the triumph as an “unprecedented feat” in the state’s sporting history. In a statement, he lauded the club’s perseverance and consistency, celebrating Remo Stars as the first privately owned team to win the NPFL since Ocean Boys in 2006.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) joined in the praise, calling the victory a moment of “immense pride” for Remo Stars and the entire southwest region, which had not produced a league champion since Julius Berger’s title in 2000. CAF also expressed anticipation for the club’s participation in the CAF Champions League.

Rival NPFL clubs extended congratulations as well. Rangers International commended the club’s 15-year journey, calling the title “a truly extraordinary achievement” and a model for football development. Ikorodu City FC chairman Sanmi Doherty also congratulated Soname, linking the success to the growing influence of private investors in Nigerian football.

Heartland FC’s technical manager Emmanuel Amuneke called Remo Stars’ rise “unprecedented” and a benchmark for private clubs, saying their success was a product of “proper planning and deliberate action.”

Despite already securing the title, Remo Stars still have three league fixtures remaining. They will face El-Kanemi Warriors away in Maiduguri (Matchday 36), host Ikorodu City in Ikenne for their official crowning on Matchday 37, and conclude the season away to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.
