VDM Cries Over Murder of Anambra Businessman “Fish Magnet”

Viral activist VeryDarkMan weeps, plans candlelight procession in protest of rising insecurity in Anambra State.

Public anger is mounting following the death of Anambra businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, who was abducted from his home and later found dead.

Onyekere, reportedly the son of a prominent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain in Anambra State, was kidnapped on Saturday from his residence in Ezinifite, a community in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.

Four days after his abduction, his body was discovered, sparking widespread condemnation of the deteriorating security conditions in the region.

Reacting to the news, outspoken social media personality and activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was seen in a viral video on Wednesday visibly emotional over the incident. He criticized the ongoing wave of kidnappings in Anambra and across Nigeria, calling it a threat to entrepreneurship and economic growth.

“The kidnapping and killings in Anambra State is too much. What is the hope of entrepreneurs? What is the hope of those trying to do business in Nigeria?” he asked, tearfully.

Otse announced plans to travel to Anambra on August 4 to lead a candlelight procession in memory of the slain businessman. He also proposed holding a peace walk at the local fish market, aimed at raising awareness about the rising spate of abductions in the state.

While authorities are yet to release an official statement on the killing, residents and online commentators have renewed calls for urgent and effective action to combat the worsening insecurity in the southeastern state.

The tragic loss of Onyekere has reignited national conversations about safety, governance, and the risks facing business owners in Nigeria’s volatile regions.
