Uromi Killings: NNPP urges Nigerians to embrace peaceful co-existence

The Southwest chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called on Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, to embrace peaceful coexistence following the tragic events in Uromi, Edo State.

This appeal came after 16 Kano travelers, who were reportedly hunters, were brutally killed by a local vigilante group. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a chieftain of the party, condemned the killings, stating that jungle justice has no place in any civilized society.

In a statement, Ajadi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called for national unity. He urged Nigerians to see each other as brothers and sisters, emphasizing the importance of brotherhood as highlighted in the national anthem, which celebrates unity despite the country’s diversity.

Describing the killings as deeply regrettable and unwarranted, especially at such a critical time in Nigeria’s history, Ajadi extended his condolences to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the people of Kano over their tragic loss.

He warned against taking the law into one’s own hands and advised that any suspicions of criminal activity should be reported to the appropriate authorities. “I commiserate with His Excellency, Governor Abba Yusuf, and the people of Kano State on the death of these 16 northern hunters who were brutally murdered in Uromi while traveling to Kano for Eid-el-Fitr,” Ajadi said. “This incident is unfortunate and unnecessary. We can only pray for the souls of the deceased and ask Almighty Allah to grant them Aljannah firdau.”

Ajadi also called on Nigerians to live in unity, irrespective of tribe or religion, reminding the public of the message in the national anthem: “Though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand.” He condemned the actions of those responsible and expressed confidence that the government would bring them to justice.

Furthermore, Ajadi commended Governor Yusuf for his efforts in preventing any potential reprisal attacks.
