UK Police Arrest Man Over Suspected Arson Attack at Keir Starmer’s Former Home

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a residence formerly occupied by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Monday in Kentish Town, north London, has prompted a broader investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, due to the profile of the targeted property and its links to the country’s leader.

The house, located within the parliamentary constituency Starmer represents, was the Prime Minister’s family home prior to his move to 10 Downing Street in July 2024. Emergency services responded swiftly to reports of a blaze at the address, and the fire was brought under control without injuries.

Police say the arrested man is also being investigated in connection with two other suspicious fires in the same Camden district — a vehicle set alight on 8 May, and another fire at the entrance of a nearby property on 11 May. Authorities are examining possible links between all three incidents.

While investigators have not confirmed a political motive, the case has been referred to counter-terrorism specialists due to the involvement of a prominent public figure. The suspect remains in custody and is being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life — a grave charge reflecting the potential severity of the attacks.

“No injuries have been reported, but we are treating these incidents with the utmost seriousness,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson. “Our inquiry is ongoing, and we are urging anyone with information to come forward.”

Security surrounding political figures in the UK has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years, with heightened concerns over the safety of MPs following a series of threats and violent incidents. This latest case adds to the growing debate over the protection of public officials amid a charged political climate.
