UEFA to Fine Chelsea and Aston Villa for Financial Rule Breaches

Chelsea and Aston Villa are set to be penalized by UEFA for breaching financial regulations.

According to The Times, both Premier League clubs will face fines after committing first-time violations of UEFA’s financial rules.

Chelsea are believed to have exceeded the allowable financial losses for the last season. A major point of contention was the club’s attempt to count revenue from the sale of their women’s team, a deal reportedly worth a world-record £200 million. The transaction was made to Blueco 22 Midco Limited, a sister company.

However, UEFA rejected Chelsea’s attempt to include this income in their financial declarations, as unlike the Premier League, UEFA does not permit revenue from sales to affiliated companies to be included in financial compliance calculations.

Aston Villa are also understood to have exceeded the financial loss limits.

Under UEFA rules, clubs are permitted to lose up to €200 million over a three-year period, though deductions are allowed for investments in youth academies, women’s football, and infrastructure.
