U.S. Military Personnel, Equipment Arrive in Maiduguri for Joint Operations With Nigerian Forces

American military aircraft have touched down in Maiduguri, Borno State, delivering troops and equipment as part of a new partnership aimed at supporting Nigeria’s security operations.

The arrival marks the first phase of a coordinated deployment that will see additional personnel and logistics moved into selected locations across the country over the coming weeks.

Nigerian military authorities said the foreign troops would function strictly in non-combat roles, focusing on training, technical assistance, and advisory support. They stressed that Nigerian forces will remain in full control of all missions and decision-making processes.

Officials explained that the collaboration is intended to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance communication systems, and improve operational readiness in areas facing persistent security threats.

Security sources also indicated that the visiting personnel would help set up and reinforce operational facilities, while working closely with Nigerian commanders to improve coordination.

The deployment follows ongoing defence cooperation between both countries aimed at boosting Nigeria’s capacity to tackle insurgency and other security challenges, particularly in the northern region.

More aircraft carrying personnel and equipment are expected to arrive as the partnership expands.
