Trump Orders Revival of Alcatraz Prison for Security Use

In a surprise executive order,U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed the restoration and reopening of Alcatraz Island prison, once home to America’s most notorious inmates, as a secure facility for high-profile criminals.

Trump claimed the move is part of a broader plan to “restore law and order and remove hardened criminals from America’s streets.” He described Alcatraz, closed since 1963, as “a perfect place to send terrorists and cartel leaders.”

The proposal has sparked backlash from civil rights groups and historians, who describe it as a performative stunt rather than a practical solution.

Critics argue that modern prison reform should focus on rehabilitation, not theatrics.

Alcatraz remains a protected national landmark and a popular tourist site under the National Park Service.
