In a decisive operation under Operation Fasan Yamma, troops from the 17 Brigade stationed at Forward Operating Base Kurfi successfully eliminated eight terrorists during a fierce encounter along the Kurfi-Batsari Road in Katsina State on Wednesday.
The soldiers swiftly engaged the insurgents in a prolonged firefight, effectively thwarting their hostile plans and inflicting significant casualties on the terrorist group.
The operation resulted in the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, underscoring the scale of the threat neutralized.
One soldier sustained injuries during the confrontation and was promptly evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for urgent treatment. The military confirmed that the soldier is currently receiving appropriate care and is in stable condition.
A statement from the Defence Headquarters on Thursday praised the bravery, resilience, and professionalism exhibited by the troops throughout the engagement. “The situation is currently calm, with troop morale and combat readiness remaining exceptionally high,” the statement said.
The Defence Headquarters further reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security and urged citizens to remain vigilant while trusting in the ongoing efforts of the armed forces.
