Troops Neutralize Bandits, Recover Over 1,000 Rustled Cattle in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in a joint operation with Operation SAFE HAVEN, have successfully neutralized armed bandits and recovered over 1,000 rustled cattle during a swift military response in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, launched based on credible intelligence, followed reports that heavily armed bandits—riding in a convoy of about 30 motorcycles—had crossed from Plateau State into Taraba through Komodoro village.

According to Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, troops rapidly mobilized and projected force into the area.

Upon engagement, the bandits attempted to retreat across a river boundary into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State but were met with fierce resistance from the advancing troops.

“In the ensuing firefight, two of the bandits were neutralized and over 1,000 stolen cattle were recovered,” the statement confirmed.

The military immediately secured the recovered livestock and relocated them to Jebjeb community in Karim Lamido LGA, where they will be safely held until a thorough identification and verification process is completed to return the animals to their rightful owners.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and coordinated action. He also praised the synergy between security agencies involved in the operation.

“This operation is part of our sustained effort to maintain pressure on criminal elements threatening peace and stability in the region,” General Uwa said.

He called on residents to maintain their support for security agencies by providing timely and accurate information, emphasizing that civilian cooperation remains critical to achieving lasting peace in Taraba and neighboring areas.
