Troops Kill Two Bandits, Arrest Key Suspect in Taraba Clearance Operations

Troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have eliminated two bandits, dismantled criminal hideouts, and arrested a major suspect during intensified operations in Taraba State.

This was revealed on Thursday in a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.

According to the statement, on December 2, troops conducted a deliberate clearance mission—Operation Zafin Wuta—across Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua villages in Takum Local Government Area. The operation, launched following credible intelligence on armed groups within the Tor-Tser axis, led to the arrest of a key suspect, Dahiru Maigari, believed to be linked to criminal activities in the region.

In a follow-up operation on December 4, troops carried out a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido and neighbouring communities to deny bandits freedom of movement.

The army reported:
“While advancing towards Usmanu, the patrol team came under fire from armed bandits concealed behind the Wudompi Community.
The soldiers responded swiftly, repelled the attack, and neutralised two armed men. A subsequent search led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, with no casualties recorded among our troops.”

The attackers were assessed to belong to the Karimjo faction, believed to be responsible for recent attempts to regroup in the area.

Following the encounter, security within Karim Lamido remained stable, with troops maintaining heightened vigilance to forestall further threats.

Reacting to the successful operations, the Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and courage.
He noted that the series of operations demonstrates that “no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach.”
