
A deadly explosion rocked the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna State, on Monday morning following a devastating collision involving fuel tankers and passenger vehicles.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m., near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, between Kwangila and Dan Magaji.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two Volkswagen Golf cars carrying passengers. The impact reportedly triggered a series of five powerful explosions, setting off a massive inferno that engulfed the highway in flames and thick black smoke.
“All the passengers in the Golf cars were killed instantly, except one driver who miraculously survived but sustained life-threatening burns,” one witness recounted.
The explosion sent shockwaves through the area, drawing attention from residents and passersby. Emergency responders and security operatives arrived swiftly at the scene, cordoning off the area and launching recovery and rescue operations.
Authorities have advised motorists and commuters to avoid the affected route as recovery efforts continue and the wreckage is cleared from the highway.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed, but multiple fatalities have been reported.
