Tiwa Savage Challenges Afrobeats Big 3 Narrative at London Concert
The singer questioned the male-dominated “Big 3” tag as she lit up the stage, also bringing her son Jamil on stage for the first time.
Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage has ignited debate in the Afrobeats community with her fiery comments about the so-called “Big 3” of the genre.
The term is widely used to describe Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as the leading figures of Afrobeats. But Savage, who many regard as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” dismissed the ranking altogether during her recent concert in London, England.
Mid-performance, she paused to address the crowd before making the bold statement:
“I don’t want to say a lot of things because I will be trending by tomorrow. F**k the Top 3.”
Her words have been interpreted by fans and critics as a pushback against what some see as a male-dominated narrative that sidelines women despite their impact on the global success of Afrobeats.
The London show also carried a personal highlight as Tiwa brought her son, Jamil, on stage for the very first time — a surprising move given her earlier remarks in interviews that she wouldn’t encourage him to pursue music as a career.
Savage’s statement has since set social media abuzz, with conversations around gender, recognition, and hierarchy in Afrobeats dominating fan discussions.
