Tinubu to Meet Gencos Over ₦4 Trillion Power Sector Debt

President Bola Tinubu is preparing to hold a high-level meeting with the heads of electricity generation companies (Gencos) to address the estimated ₦4 trillion debt burden hampering Nigeria’s power sector.

The meeting comes amid mounting concerns from the Gencos over unpaid invoices for power supplied to the national grid.

Analysts say the liquidity crisis threatens not just electricity supply but also ongoing reforms aimed at stabilizing the sector.

Sources in the presidency say Tinubu hopes to introduce a bailout or structured repayment plan to prevent a complete collapse of the sector.

The meeting will also address issues surrounding the performance of power distribution companies and energy theft.
