Tinubu, Shettima Mourn Business Icon Aminu Dantata, Hail His Legacy of Service and Philanthropy
Nigeria’s leaders pay tribute to the late mogul’s impact on the economy, national unity, and humanitarian efforts
President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigerian business magnate and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away at the age of 94 in the early hours of Saturday in the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Dantata’s passing as a “monumental national loss,” emphasizing the late industrialist’s critical role in Nigeria’s economic growth and philanthropic landscape.
“We lost a prominent business mogul, patriot, and elder statesman who contributed significantly to the development of our nation,” the President stated. Tinubu recalled his personal relationship with Dantata, lauding his wise counsel, humility, and unwavering commitment to national unity through commerce and philanthropy.
Alhaji Dantata, a former Commissioner for Planning and Development in the old Kano State, was celebrated for his influence across multiple sectors—ranging from construction and manufacturing to agriculture, banking, and oil and gas.
Vice President Shettima also paid glowing tribute, calling Dantata “an irreplaceable institution” and “a living bridge that connected us to our past.” In his condolence message released by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said Dantata’s death marks the end of a vital chapter in Nigeria’s democratic and economic evolution.
“He was among the greatest titans in Nigeria’s history—one whose values and vision shaped generations,” Shettima remarked, while praying that Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata, born into the famed Dantata family of Kano, inherited and expanded his father’s commercial empire to become a towering figure in Nigerian business. Beyond commerce, he was deeply invested in humanitarian work—funding schools, mosques, healthcare centers, and supporting vulnerable communities across the country.
Both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima extended condolences to the Dantata family, the Government of Kano State, and the entire nation, urging Nigerians to reflect on his life of service, diligence, and unwavering patriotism.
