President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Chukwuemeka Chukwu as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Enugu State.
The request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session. The president noted that the nomination is made in accordance with Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Chukwu, who holds a doctorate degree, has been nominated for a second and final term as Enugu State’s representative on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the request “its usual expeditious consideration.”
Akpabio referred the letter to the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, instructing the committee to screen the nominee and report back within two weeks.
