Tinubu Charges Acting IGP Disu to Reinforce Security, Rebuild Public Trust

Nigeria’s security leadership entered a new phase on Wednesday as President Bola Tinubu directed the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to take decisive steps to curb crime and reinforce stability across the country.

The charge came during Disu’s decoration ceremony at the State House in Abuja, shortly after the resignation of former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. Disu’s appointment is subject to ratification by the Nigeria Police Council and confirmation by the Senate, with the council expected to convene next week.

Addressing the new police chief, the President said the appointment was based on merit and proven performance, recalling Disu’s service record and commitment to duty. He stressed that the country faces persistent threats, including banditry and terrorism, and urged the Acting IGP to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, enforce professionalism within the ranks, and prioritise the protection of lives and property.

Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s capacity to lead reforms and drive innovative strategies in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring him of full presidential backing in confronting the nation’s security challenges.

The President also commended the outgoing IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, for his service, thanking him for his contributions to law enforcement and national stability.
