Thailand, Cambodia Agree to Immediate Unconditional Ceasefire After Malaysia-Brokered Talks

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, set to take effect at midnight on Monday, July 28, following high-level peace talks mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Announcing the breakthrough in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar stated:

“Both Cambodia and Thailand have reached a mutual understanding. First, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire will take effect at midnight local time, July 28, 2025.”

The agreement follows a recent escalation in border tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations, sparking concerns over regional stability.

Malaysia’s role as mediator has been widely praised, with Anwar emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in defusing potential conflicts. Further discussions on long-term peace and cooperation are expected in the coming days.

The ceasefire is intended to halt all military operations and pave the way for continued negotiations under the auspices of ASEAN.
