Terry Confident Mikel Could Still Shine in the EPL

Chelsea legend John Terry believes former teammate John Obi Mikel could still thrive in the Premier League, even after retiring three years ago.

The 44-year-old Terry, who had a successful career at Stamford Bridge alongside top midfielders like Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack, praised Mikel in an interview with talkSport on Wednesday.

Despite Mikel’s retirement in October 2021 after his time with Kuwait SC, Terry emphasized that the Nigerian midfielder could still play in the Premier League. “He was brilliant. He covered so much ground,” said Terry. “He could still play in the Premier League today. He had it all.”

Terry also pointed out that holding midfielders like Mikel, who often go unrecognized, deserve more credit. The duo played together at Chelsea from 2006 to 2017, making 266 appearances together and winning major titles, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Mikel, who joined Chelsea in 2006 from Lyn FK, made 372 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and contributing 12 assists. He remains remembered for his key role in the 2012 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
