Tension in PDP as Police Block BoT Members from Secretariat, Forcing Meeting Relocation

BoT moves gathering to Yar’Adua Centre after security operatives bar access to Wadata Plaza amid national secretary row

A fresh wave of crisis hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, June 30, as police operatives blocked members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from accessing the national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

The BoT had scheduled a meeting to address internal tensions, including the controversy surrounding the office of the national secretary and arrangements for the party’s landmark 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

However, security personnel stationed at the PDP headquarters reportedly prevented entry into the premises, claiming they were acting on “orders from above.”

Speaking to journalists outside the barricaded gate, former PDP National Secretary Umar Tsauri confirmed that security forces refused to allow the meeting to proceed as planned.

With tensions running high, the BoT quickly relocated the session to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja’s Central Business District.

The disruption is the latest sign of unrest within the opposition party, which has been grappling with leadership disputes and questions over internal processes. Party stakeholders fear the ongoing drama may further fracture the PDP ahead of upcoming political activities.
