Taraba Government Donates ₦50 Million to Niger State Over Mokwa Flood Disaster

The Taraba State Government has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the tragic flood disaster that recently struck Mokwa Local Government Area, claiming lives and displacing several residents.

A delegation led by Senator Manu Haruna, representing Taraba Central, visited Niger State Governor Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday to express sympathy and deliver a message of solidarity on behalf of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas.

Speaking during the visit, Senator Haruna described the flooding as a “monumental loss” and a “national disaster,” underscoring the shared grief felt across the country.

“As a sister state, we are deeply pained by the unfortunate incident in Mokwa. This is not just a tragedy for Niger State, but for the entire nation,” Senator Haruna said.

He announced a ₦50 million donation from the Taraba State Government to support relief efforts for the affected victims and help in the recovery process.

In response, Governor Bago expressed profound appreciation to the people and government of Taraba for their compassion and timely support.

“This gesture reflects the unity and brotherhood that binds our states together, especially in times of hardship. We are truly grateful for your empathy and generosity,” Governor Bago remarked.

The Mokwa flood, triggered by torrential rains, has been described as one of the worst natural disasters to hit the region in recent years, prompting urgent appeals for humanitarian assistance from both federal and state authorities.

The visit by the Taraba delegation is seen as a strong symbol of inter-state solidarity, reinforcing the importance of collective response in the face of environmental disasters affecting Nigerian communities.
