Nigeria’s Super Falcons edged out long-time rivals South Africa’s Banyana Banyana with a thrilling 2–1 victory in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), advancing to the semi-finals and reigniting their pursuit of a historic 10th continental title.
In a match that lived up to its billing as a clash of titans, goals from captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie gave the Falcons the edge in a tightly contested encounter. South Africa pulled one back through Linda Motihalo late in the second half, but it was not enough to deny Nigeria another major win over their fiercest continental rivals.
The game, played at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli, Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, was a tactical masterclass from Nigerian head coach Justin Madugu. Nigeria dominated large spells of the first half, pressing high and keeping possession smartly.
