Spyro Champions Clean Music in a Controversial Industry: “I’m Living Proof You Don’t Have to Compromise”

Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, has reaffirmed his commitment to producing clean, value-driven music in an industry often dominated by explicit content and provocative themes.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the “Who’s Your Guy?” hitmaker made it clear that his mission goes beyond entertainment—he’s on a purpose-driven path to redefine what success can look like in Afrobeats.

“I want to be known as the guy who stood for clean music,” he said. “Clean visuals, clean lyrics, clean everything. That’s my contribution to this industry.”

Spyro urged up-and-coming artists to remain true to their values, insisting that commercial success doesn’t require compromising one’s principles.

“Many artists believe they have to go the explicit route to make money. But I’m proof that you don’t,” he stated. “Look at me—I don’t make vulgar music, yet I’m thriving. You can win without selling out. The key is knowing your God. That’s where your strength and creativity come from.”

Spyro’s stance is deeply rooted in his Christian faith, which he openly celebrates both in his music and public appearances. At the 77th Headies Awards, the singer made headlines not just for attending but for arriving with a Bible in hand—an unconventional accessory at one of the industry’s glitziest events.

Explaining the bold move, he said:
“We’re not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s why I carry my Bible, wear my ‘Jesus boy’ cap, and rock my pendant. No Jesus, no life.”

Though he didn’t take home an award that night, Spyro still had reason to celebrate—he recently acquired a new home, which he proudly shared with fans on Instagram. The milestone serves as a powerful testament to his message: you can succeed in music without compromising your faith or your values.
