South African Consul General Highlights Role of South Africa Week in Celebrating Nigeria’s Support Against Apartheid

The Consul General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria, Professor Bobby Moroe, has emphasized the significance of South African Week in Nigeria, citing the country’s crucial support in the fight against apartheid. Speaking at the closing event of this year’s South African Cup, a golf tournament celebrating South Africa’s freedom and democracy, Moroe expressed the pride his country takes in Nigeria’s role in the struggle to end apartheid.
“There are some countries that stood by us in our trying times, and Nigeria is one of them. We are very proud of the role they played in ending apartheid in South Africa, and now both nations are important economies on the continent,” Moroe said.
The South African Cup has grown into a key event during South Africa Week in Nigeria, serving as a hub for businessmen and diplomats with strong ties to both economies. Over 100 participants took part in this year’s event, held on Sunday, May 4, at the par-72 course of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos. The golf competition featured a Stableford round, with Lanre Kalejaiye and Caren van Royen claiming the men’s and women’s prizes with 34 and 39 Stableford points, respectively.
Tolu Adesemowo, CEO of Crossflex International Limited, and the event’s organizers, emphasized the unique experience the South African Cup provides, which has attracted significant support from various brands. “We are honored to be in a position where we can bring value to golf and its stakeholders through an elite event like this,” Adesemowo remarked. “Being in the industry for over a decade has enriched us with perspectives and experiences that make our event stand out.”
Other winners of the tournament include Sanya Akindele, Ashish Gajar, Dammy Oruwari, Lynda Obieze, Ankit Pir, Nitin Mehta, Kayode Oguntayo, Seyi Siwoku, Jagdish Jethvani, Pat Ozoemene, and Morenike Nedum.
