Sokoto Ministry of Health Issues Alert as Meningitis Cases Rise

Sokoto State’s Ministry of Health has issued a public health warning as the state sees a surge in Meningitis cases across several local government areas. The warning, delivered by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, comes after laboratory tests confirmed that samples from suspected cases were positive for the disease.

Abubakar emphasized that the ministry has ramped up surveillance, case management, and public health interventions to curb the spread of Meningitis. He urged residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves.

“Seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility if you experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, or any unusual signs,” Abubakar advised. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding crowded areas, and ensuring proper ventilation in both homes and public spaces.

Additionally, he called on citizens to report any suspected cases or unusual illnesses to nearby healthcare facilities to help prevent further spread.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has assured that necessary medication has been provided to all health facilities across the state, reinforcing the state’s efforts to manage and contain the outbreak.
