Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced the move during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, citing the need for a “more stable environment” to effectively manage the state’s affairs.
Fubara’s defection comes after months of political tension in Rivers State, including a prolonged clash with members of the State House of Assembly. Political analysts view the switch as a major boost to the APC’s influence in the South-South region.
The PDP in Rivers has yet to issue an official response, though sources indicate ongoing internal consultations to assess the implications of losing a sitting governor.
The move follows a meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu on Monday, fueling speculation about potential realignments ahead of upcoming elections.
