Rivers SSG, Tammy Danagogo, Defends Governor Fubara’s Calm Approach Amid Criticism

The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, has issued a stern warning that the calm and peaceful approach of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to governance should not be misconstrued as weakness. His remarks come in response to growing criticism from political opponents, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The criticism has been directed at Danagogo’s role in the administration, particularly regarding his decision to send an official letter inviting members of the state’s legislature to a meeting with Governor Fubara. Wike, one of the most vocal critics, dismissed Danagogo’s letter as “useless,” causing further tension.

In a recent interaction with journalists during the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Danagogo defended his actions, asserting that there was nothing inappropriate about his decision to send a letter inviting lawmakers to meet with the governor. He emphasized that such a communication was a part of his official duties as SSG and not an overstep of his position.

Drawing from his extensive experience as a lawyer from the Kalabari region and his time serving as SSG during Wike’s second tenure as governor, Danagogo explained that he had carried out similar duties under the previous administration without issue. His defense was not based on political loyalty, he clarified, but rather on the need to set the record straight and address what he viewed as deliberate misrepresentations.

Danagogo went on to commend Governor Fubara for his restraint in the face of provocation, particularly citing the recent incident in which the state assembly complex was locked, preventing the governor from presenting the state’s 2025 budget. He noted that, in such situations, past governors might have resorted to drastic actions. However, Fubara opted for a peaceful and measured response, a decision Danagogo praised.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the people of Rivers State, Dr. Danagogo assured citizens that the state government remains focused on their welfare and economic stability. He emphasized that Governor Fubara’s preference for calm and order is rooted in a desire to avoid policies that could lead to hardship for the people of the state.
