
Rivers Exco Approves ₦1.8 Trillion 2026 Budget Proposal
The Rivers State Executive Council has approved a ₦1.8 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, signalling the state government’s determination to sustain development amid prevailing economic challenges.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday evening.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the newly sworn-in Special Adviser to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Economic Matters and Social Development, Mr. Peter Medee, said the proposed budget is strategically crafted to consolidate ongoing projects and accelerate new initiatives across critical sectors of the state’s economy.
Medee disclosed that the total size of the budget stands at ₦1,854,248,734,475.76 (one trillion, eight hundred and fifty-four billion, two hundred and forty-eight million, seven hundred and thirty-four thousand, four hundred and seventy-five naira, seventy-six kobo).
He revealed that the budget has been christened the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.”
According to him, the administration remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving its developmental objectives and improving the welfare of Rivers people, despite the economic and fiscal challenges facing the state.
“The proposed 2026 budget is designed to enable the government to complete ongoing projects while advancing strategic initiatives in key sectors that directly impact the lives of our people,” Medee said.
Also present at the briefing were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, and the newly sworn-in Special Adviser on Finance, Barrister Frank Fubara.
