The Olubadan-In-Council has formally nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, following the recent passing of the former monarch, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The nomination was made on Monday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located within the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Although the new Olubadan was not present at the meeting, the decision was unanimous among the council members.
Presiding over the meeting, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Balogun of Ibadanland, confirmed the collective endorsement of Ladoja by the Olubadan-In-Council.
“We, the members of the Olubadan-In-Council, have all signed and nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Oba Ajibola said.
He added that the council’s resolution will be formally submitted to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who will then determine a suitable date for the presentation of the staff of office to the new monarch.
“The late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will be laid to rest this week. So, this week is not feasible for the coronation. The governor may decide on a timeline—perhaps three weeks, two weeks, or even one,” Ajibola explained.
The former Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. His funeral arrangements are currently underway, with burial expected later this week.
Further details on the official installation ceremony of Oba Rashidi Ladoja are expected to be announced in the coming days.
