Protest Erupts in Otukpo over Incessant Killings, Kidnappings

Residents of Otukpo, Benue State, have taken to the streets in a fierce protest against the alarming rise in killings and kidnappings that have plagued their community. Chanting “We no go gree!” the demonstrators blocked major roads, demanding immediate action from both the government and security agencies to curb the escalating violence.

One of the protesters, Daniel Oche, spoke passionately about the frequent attacks, describing them as a “constant recurrence” that has left the community in a state of perpetual fear. He made a chilling allegation, claiming that the local power supply is deliberately cut off before each attack, further heightening the sense of vulnerability.

“This has been happening over and over again. We are not safe in our own homes. And notice this — the electricity always goes off before every attack. It’s like they don’t want us to see what’s coming,” Oche said, his voice filled with frustration.

The protest comes on the heels of a series of brutal incidents in Otukpo, with many residents fleeing their homes to escape the violence, while others remain trapped in constant dread.

Despite the gravity of the situation, there has been no visible intervention from security forces to alleviate the fear and chaos sweeping through the town.

The growing unrest reflects the deepening security crisis in Otukpo, with locals demanding urgent action to restore peace and safety to their once peaceful community.
