President Tinubu Transfers Surveyor-General’s Office to Presidency to Boost Geospatial Data Management

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) from the Ministry of Works to the Presidency. The directive was announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, following Thursday’s Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the president.

The move aims to streamline management of geospatial data and enhance direct presidential oversight of national mapping and land administration priorities. While specific reasons for the shift were not detailed, it aligns with the administration’s broader reform agenda and growing emphasis on geospatial intelligence for planning, infrastructure, and security.

OSGoF, Nigeria’s official mapping agency, is responsible for providing crucial geospatial information and services nationwide.
