In a bold move to uphold fairness and strengthen national cohesion, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has demanded that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region.
Speaking late Monday after a high-powered meeting of PDP leaders under the banner of “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP,” Wike emphasized that the party must adhere to the principles of equity, federal character, and its own constitution by ensuring a Southern presidency after eight unbroken years of Northern leadership under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Justice and inclusivity demand that the PDP takes a firm stand—our next presidential candidate must come from the South in 2027,” Wike declared while reading the group’s communiqué. “This is not just about politics; it’s about honoring our founding principles and preserving the fragile unity of Nigeria.”
The closed-door meeting brought together a formidable lineup of PDP heavyweights, including former Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia). Also in attendance were PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, serving and former federal and state lawmakers, as well as key party executives from across the nation.
