Portable Declares He Will Back Any Party That Pays Him in 2027 Elections

The controversial singer says his political loyalty will go to the highest bidder, sparking fresh debate ahead of the polls.

Nigerian street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again stirred controversy after declaring that he will support any political party willing to pay him ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, the singer told his fans that his endorsement would go to whichever candidate or party “brings the money first,” regardless of political affiliation.

“My fans, hope your voter’s cards are ready? We will be voting for any candidate that gives us money. Election is starting soon. I’m voting for anyone that gives me money, that can help my life. I’m the owner of my life and my voter’s card,” he said.

Explaining his stance, Portable added: “I can’t be campaigning around and be hungry. Bring the money and let me help my people, the people are hungry. If it is APC that comes first, they will own me. If PDP comes, I will also collect. Even if it is Peter Obi, I will ask you to vote for him.”

This is not the first time Portable has waded into politics. In 2024, the singer openly criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to extend financial support despite his vocal backing during the 2023 presidential campaign.

His latest remarks have sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the culture of transactional politics and the role of entertainers in fueling voter inducement.
