The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve lingering labour issues or face a nationwide strike.
The ultimatum, which took effect on August 27, 2025, was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of SSANIP’s 77th General Executive Council (GEC) meeting, held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.
In the document jointly signed by SSANIP President, Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Shehu Gaya, the association demanded the immediate release of the new Scheme of Service, constitution of the renegotiation committee for the 2010 Agreement, payment of all outstanding arrears, and the disbursement of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Needs Assessment Funds.
The union also listed pending arrears, including promotion arrears, the 25/35% salary review arrears, wage awards, and full implementation of the new minimum wage.
Expressing dissatisfaction, the communiqué accused the Federal Government of “insincerity” and “paying lip service” to agreements reached, despite repeated engagements.
“After exhausting all patience, Council observed with great displeasure the government’s failure to honour its commitments or give priority to the education sector,” the statement read.
The union warned that unless its demands are met within 21 days, it would have “no option but to withdraw services across the nation.”
