The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has sharply criticised its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for allegedly urging supporters to back African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the August 16, 2025, bye-elections.
In a statement on Friday, Abure accused Obi of undermining the party’s efforts, calling his remarks “misleading, mischievous, and delusional.”
Obi, linked to the ADC but yet to formally defect, on Thursday urged members of the Obidient and COPDEM movements to support ADC candidates, claiming the LP had no “recognised” contenders on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) list due to internal crises.
But Abure dismissed the claim, insisting LP candidates are on the ballot. “What Obi does not know is that the Labour Party is contesting the elections,” he said. “We have done everything within the law to ensure our participation in this and future polls.”
He urged supporters to ignore Obi’s directive and vote for LP candidates, calling for focus and unity to secure victory in all affected states.
