Police Warn Officers Against Lobbying for Promotions

The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned its personnel and the public against lobbying for special promotions, affirming a commitment to merit-based advancement.

NPF Reiterates Merit-Based Promotion, Issues Warning Against Lobbying
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a firm warning to its officers and members of the public, advising against any form of lobbying or unofficial influence in the ongoing promotion processes.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF made it clear that any attempt to influence promotions through back channels would be met with strict disciplinary measures.

Addressing concerns surrounding recent accelerated promotions, the NPF clarified that the advancements were not indiscriminate. According to Adejobi, the promotions were granted based on a formal reward framework designed to recognize officers who have displayed exceptional courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty.

“These promotions were earned—not gifted,” the statement emphasized. “They were given to personnel who met the clearly defined standards for accelerated recognition.”

The Force also addressed what it described as misleading information being circulated by an unnamed online platform, which had suggested the promotions were arbitrary. The NPF strongly refuted this claim, branding it as false and an attempt to discredit the integrity of the police leadership.

“These reports are baseless and should be disregarded. The NPF remains committed to fairness and transparency in all personnel-related decisions,” the statement added.

The police high command cautioned officers seeking to gain promotion through unofficial means, stating that such practices not only undermine internal systems but also erode public trust. Adejobi stressed that any officer found lobbying would face sanctions in line with existing police regulations.

“Lobbying violates the core principles of professionalism and meritocracy,” the Force warned. “Such behavior is unacceptable and will be dealt with decisively.”

Commitment to Discipline and Professionalism
Concluding the statement, the Nigeria Police Force urged its officers to remain disciplined, dedicated, and focused on their national duties. It reaffirmed that all promotions would continue to be awarded solely based on performance, integrity, and verifiable service excellence.

“Our promotion process is anchored on transparency, merit, and honorable service,” Adejobi concluded. “Officers should continue to serve with pride and distinction.”
