Police nab two over motorcycle theft in Gombe, recover three

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to a cross-border motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered three stolen motorcycles in separate operations within Akko Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, stating they were made following a tip-off from a concerned citizen.

According to him, on July 7, 2025, around 12:00 p.m., operatives of Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madawaki, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, Akko LGA, based on credible intelligence. Two suspects—25-year-old Misba’u Adamu from Alkaleri LGA in Bauchi State, and 28-year-old Adamu Ibrahim from Garko LGA in Kano State—were apprehended during the operation.

The duo allegedly confessed to breaking into the residence of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau around 4:00 a.m. on July 6. Further investigations led officers to the residence of a man identified as Babangida, where the stolen motorcycles were found hidden.

The suspects remain in custody as efforts continue to apprehend the gang leader and other accomplices still on the run. Police say the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In a separate incident, Abdullahi revealed that another motorcycle was recovered during a routine night patrol in the Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA. The suspect fled the scene, but the bike was secured and is now in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to trace the owner and identify the fleeing suspect.

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to support ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
