Alarmed by the rising incidence of malaria among students in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, the National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Pharm. Ambrose Igwekanma Ezeh, has formally endorsed the Geneith Health Competition as a vital intervention to tackle the disease among young people.
Pharm. Ezeh made this endorsement during a courtesy visit to Geneith Pharmaceuticals, commending the initiative as a timely and impactful response to a pressing public health concern.
“The fight against malaria is a shared responsibility,” he emphasized. “We must harness the collective efforts of government, the private sector, and communities to develop sustainable and innovative solutions that deliver real change.”
Expressing serious concern over reports that 95% of students visiting campus clinics are diagnosed with malaria, Ezeh described the statistic as both alarming and unacceptable. He called for urgent, coordinated action to reverse the trend.
In his remarks, Umenwa Emmanuel, Managing Director and CEO of Geneith Pharmaceuticals, explained that the health competition was launched as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts and its broader vision to help eradicate malaria in Nigeria.
The CEO of CEOAfrica, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor hailed the initiative as a groundbreaking step in youth-led public health advocacy, underscoring its potential to drive real behavior change on campuses.
The event was attended by key executives of Geneith Pharmaceuticals, including Pharm. Udeh Judith (Principal Manager, Marketing), Pharm. Okechukwu Simeon (Assistant General Manager, Sales), and Pharm. Bimbo Bowoto (AGM, Sales & Marketing), all of whom reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to the anti-malaria campaign.
Powered by Coatal Forte Softgel, the Geneith Health Competition aims to reach thousands of students across the country, promoting health awareness, peer-led education, and proactive advocacy for malaria prevention and control.
