Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Secure PVCs, Describes It as the People’s Strongest Weapon for Change

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to actively participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), stressing that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains the most powerful tool for building a new and better Nigeria.

In a post shared on X, Obi urged eligible citizens not to underestimate the power of their PVC, which he described as “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor against injustice and bad leadership.”

“The future of our nation lies in your hands,” he said. “The greatest strength of any democracy rests in the voter’s card.”

Obi emphasized that Nigerians must be determined to organize, mobilize, and participate fully in the democratic process to make election rigging difficult.

He strongly warned against vote-selling, reminding citizens that politicians who buy votes only do so to gain access to public funds for looting.

“Those who sell their votes mortgage their future and rob themselves and their children of access to quality education, healthcare, jobs, and opportunities for a better life,” he noted.

The former Anambra State governor further described vote-buyers as “criminals in disguise, not leaders,” insisting that Nigerians must demand leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion.

“The power to change this country is in your hands. The looters will only loot when we give them the opportunity. Your vote counts—if it didn’t, they wouldn’t be desperate to buy it,” Obi declared.

He urged Nigerians to resist intimidation and deception during the electoral process and to defend their votes with courage.

“Our democracy is at stake. That is why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and safeguard your PVC. When the time comes, use it wisely. Let us prove that Nigeria belongs to the people, not to those who trade our future for selfish gain,” he said.

Reiterating his conviction, Obi concluded: “A new Nigeria is possible—but only if we take responsibility and act together for the change we desire.”
