PDP Slams Tinubu’s Policies, Demands Immediate Reversal of ‘Anti-People’ Measures

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing condemnation of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, calling for the immediate reversal of what it described as “anti-people policies” that have plunged the nation into worsening economic hardship and insecurity.

This demand formed the crux of the communiqué issued at the end of the PDP’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The communiqué was read by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, who was flanked by members of the National Working Committee.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door session, Damagum said the NEC expressed grave concern over the “dire and troubling condition” of the nation under the leadership of President Tinubu, who assumed office one year ago.

“NEC condemns the worsening insecurity; the wanton killings, banditry, kidnapping, marauding of communities and other acts of terrorism in various parts of our country, emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his constitutional duty to ensure the safety and security of the nation and her citizens,” Damagum declared.

The PDP NEC accused the Federal Government of causing untold hardship through what it described as “ill-advised and ill-implemented” policies. These include the removal of fuel subsidies, hikes in electricity tariffs, and the imposition of multiple taxes and charges, which, according to the opposition party, have led to the collapse of businesses, massive job losses, and increased crime across the country.

The communiqué further alleged widespread corruption, policy inconsistency, and budget manipulation within the current administration.

“NEC condemns the policy inconsistency, wholesale corruption, massive treasury-looting, budget padding, and diversion of public funds that pervade the Tinubu administration, resulting in infrastructural retrogression and loss of investors’ confidence in our system,” Damagum added.

The PDP emphasized that it will not be silenced or intimidated by the government and vowed to continue standing with the Nigerian people.

Political observers see the statement as a renewed push by the PDP to reassert its role as the main opposition party ahead of future elections. However, there has yet to be an official response from the Presidency or the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the accusations.

As tensions rise, many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic strain and worsening security challenges—issues that will likely shape the national discourse in the coming months.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has consistently voiced strong opposition to what it perceives as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s attempts to establish a one-party state in Nigeria. The PDP alleges that the APC is undermining democratic institutions and processes, thereby threatening the nation’s democratic framework.
