PDP Senate Caucus Dismisses Collapse Rumours, Signals Openness to Coalition

The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly dismissed claims that the party is in disarray, insisting it remains strong, united, and battle-ready ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists Tuesday in Abuja, Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro debunked narratives of an imploding PDP, describing them as wishful thinking.

“Contrary to the noise, the PDP is not in shreds. We are waxing stronger, and our internal issues are being addressed,” Moro declared.

While acknowledging internal disagreements, he emphasized they are not unusual in any political organisation and are being managed through the party’s internal mechanisms.

Moro took a swipe at what he called the “premature celebration” by those pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state, warning that such a drift is dangerous to democracy.

“As the largest opposition party, the PDP is open to coalition talks. We are not averse to strategic alliances that can safeguard democratic values. If a coalition becomes necessary, the PDP should lead it,” he said.

The Minority Leader also commended the efforts of the party’s reconciliation committee, led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, calling it instrumental in healing rifts and repositioning the party.

“We’re resolving the contradictions at the national level. The PDP will re-emerge more competitive and cohesive,” he added.

Moro urged party members to remain resolute and loyal, expressing optimism that the PDP would play a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
