The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Umar Damagum as its substantive National Chairman, ending months of leadership uncertainty within the opposition party.
The announcement was made on Monday during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja. Delegates resolved to elevate Damagum, who has held the position in an acting capacity for over a year, to full chairman ahead of the party’s elective convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Damagum was officially sworn in by the PDP’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, during the session.
His confirmation comes at a critical moment for the PDP, as the party prepares for its convention and begins strategizing for the 2027 general elections.
