A pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group, Bala Agents’ Mandate, has called on former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to return to the PDP and collaborate with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the group’s State Coordinator, Amadi Chijioke, emphasized that forming a new opposition coalition would dilute efforts to challenge the current administration.
He urged Amaechi and Obi to “come back home” to the PDP, highlighting Governor Mohammed’s leadership as a unifying force within the party.
National Coordinator Habib Musa commended the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Mohammed, for its unity and accountability.
He criticized the recent defections of governors from Delta and Akwa Ibom States to the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing them to opportunism rather than ideological alignment.
Musa also condemned the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State and the attempt to shut down the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, accusing the federal government of using state power to intimidate opposition voices.
The group’s appeal coincides with ongoing discussions within the PDP about rebuilding the party and forming strategic alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Mohammed has expressed his readiness to collaborate with Obi to form a strong opposition and counter what he described as “mediocres parading themselves as leaders.”
Obi has also engaged with PDP stalwarts and governors to explore the possibility of rejoining the party and contributing to a united opposition front.
As the political landscape evolves, Bala Agents’ Mandate’s call reflects a broader movement within the PDP to consolidate efforts and present a formidable challenge to the ruling APC in the upcoming elections.
